September Neighborhood Watch

WHAT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH SUPPORTER?

The Neighborhood Watch program is sponsored and endorsed by the HOA and run strictly on the efforts of volunteer residents.  With the support of the HOA and Sheriff’s Departments, both Loudon and Monroe, Neighborhood Watch is just one more effort to keep Tellico Village crime free and safe for all residents.

The re-launch of an active Neighborhood Watch pilot program began in July 2021 in the Kahite neighborhood.  With its success, Kahite has thrived with many added benefits for their community.  The same program was implemented in the Main Village.  You can imagine how much more difficult it is to reach out to the residents of six different neighborhoods versus one.  However, slowly it is being done.

The entire program is overseen by the HOA Tellico Village Neighborhood Watch Chair.  Each neighborhood has a volunteer Neighborhood Watch Coordinator (NWC).  It is far more difficult to manage the more densely and larger neighborhoods here in the Main Village opposed to Kahite.  Your NWC’s can always use help.  So, what can you do?  Become a Neighborhood Watch Supporter (NWS)!!

Before you think – I don’t have enough time or I wouldn’t know what to do or … let me tell you there is not much more to do other than what you all do already.  A Neighborhood Watch Supporter assists your Neighborhood Watch Coordinators with minimal tasks like:

  • Putting notices in paper boxes on your street or block.
  • Keeping an extra eye out on your street for suspicious activity and reporting it back to the NWC.
  • When asked, watching out for a neighbor’s home that might be on vacation.
  • Attending Neighborhood Watch events to educate yourself on subject matter then being able to let other neighbors know what to do if something occurs.
  • Being an informed individual in order to assist the Sheriff’s Department when needed.
  • Be a good witness and pass the information on to the authorities.
  • You are NOT authorized to act in any law enforcement capacity at any time.

It doesn’t sound like much … and it really isn’t.  But more eyes and ears and hands are better than a few.  Help out your Neighborhood Watch Coordinator by letting them know you want to be a Supporter for your street or block. Many of you already have a great handle on the activities of your areas, just lend that help to the Neighborhood Watch program.

Contact your Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and let them know you’re interested.  Make sure to include your address and contact information!
