November 2023 – President’s Message

I tend to view October as good news and bad news:

  1. Love the fall colors, hate all the leaves that come with it.
  2. The holidays are coming…yeah!
  3. The holidays are coming…oh no – need to start shopping!

Regardless of your views on the upcoming months, HOA has lots of great events to help you get in the holiday spirit! Here are a few of them:

  • Annual Holiday Gala is December 3 at the Yacht Club. There will be both live music and DJ Steve, which should be a lot of fun. The event is almost sold out, so don’t wait to book your tickets!
  • Holiday Hand and Foot & Carryin is on December 13 at the Chota Rec Center, 5-8pm. Why fight the store crowds when you can have some fun while winning a prize that you can regift!
  • Holiday Cookie Exchange is on December 18, 11am-1:30pm at the Blue Heron (Yacht Club). Here’s a chance to avoid store bought cookies and get the good stuff!

Our November Social is on Tuesday the 14th at the Yacht Club. This event will be dedicated to recognizing and thanking our wonderful volunteers who run HOA. HOA is an all-volunteer organization and without them we would not exist! Please plan to attend and help us to thank everyone who has helped to make 2023 a success. Also, we will be holding a short HOA Business Meeting at the start to elect our 2024 HOA Board. Your vote is important! Here is the slate for 2024:

  • President                                               Open
  • VP of Programs                                    Lavonne Mitchell
  • VP of Advocacy                                    Mike Robins
  • VP of Membership                                Mark Flynn
  • VP of Communication/Marketing      Kay Condon
  • VP of Technology                                 Bob Bilobeau
  • VP of Social Planning                           Roxanne Jackson
  • VP of Event Planning                            Betty Fortune
  • Secretary                                              Nancy Mariani
  • Treasurer                                              Roberta Hopkins

  • Chair at Large                                       David Warmbold
  • Neighborhood Watch                            Sherry Le
  • Welcome Orientation                            Judy Bell

As you see, we don’t have a President identified at this point for next year. Normally the next President comes from within the prior year’s Board; however, this year we don’t have anyone who is able/willing to stand for President. As a result, the Board is looking at other options – one of which is to find someone within the existing HOA membership who would be interested in filling this role. If you have an interest in filling the President’s role in 2024, please contact one of the Nomination Committee members:  Mark Pantley, Ken Litke, Lavonne Mitchell, or Joe Bogardus. You can find the job description on our web site:  Board of Directors – Tellico Village HomeOwners Association (hoatellicovillage.com)

Recently we experienced several events within our membership that resulted in the HOA Board producing a policy regarding Disciplinary Action. The policy was approved by the HOA Board at our September meeting and incorporated into our Policy Book. Here is the text:

Disciplinary Action:

In the event that a member acts in an unacceptable manner towards HOA Board members, HOA volunteers, other HOA members, the HOA in general or venue staff, it is the prerogative of the HOA Board to discontinue the member’s membership with the Tellico Village HOA.

Actions that may constitute unacceptable behavior include (but are not limited to):

  1. Verbal or non-verbal communication that is confrontational, aggressive, or deemed inappropriate.
  2. Cheating or other behavior deemed inappropriate during HOA events where games are in play.
  3. Inappropriate behavior in the form of language or interpersonal interaction when a complaint has been filed with the HOA.
  4. Stealing from the HOA in the form of monetary funds or materials/food items that the member removes above what is intended for each member.

If unacceptable behavior occurs, the circumstances will be documented by the applicable HOA VP and then submitted to the President for action. The President and the submitting VP will together determine the appropriate steps to take – e.g., verbal or written warning, request to the Board for termination of membership, etc.

If a person’s membership is terminated, they will not be allowed to attend HOA functions or events going forward including as a guest of another member. The member may request reinstatement after a period of two (2) years.  Reinstatement will be subject to HOA Board approval.  If the member is reinstated, and has another occurrence, the member will be banned for life.
